My client called me for help because she was feeling totally overwhelmed by the situation in her office and her clothes storage. A large room was dedicated to her office and clothing storage but the whole place had become a real mess. When the family returned from Asia 5 years ago, she had bought a ‘temporary’ canvas wardrobe until she could settle in better. To store her files and office stuff she had collected various small storage units which not only proved to be totally inefficient but also these odd pieces of furniture did not give a harmonious look.
During our first consultation, while discussing with my client, I visualised exactly how we could optimise this large and bright room.
I suggested:
1/ To replace the canvas wardrobe with a large floor-to-ceiling wardrobe to store not only clothes but also (in the upper and less accessible part) sentimental objects, memorabilia, old files to keep…
2/ to remove the many small inefficient storage units and create a storage wall for office supplies and files, to put the printer and also some decorative objects to make this wall more attractive.
3/ to free up the desk surface, a shelf would be added above the desk for easy access to current or recurring files.
4/ to create a comfortable corner with the existing armchairs to have a place to chat, phone, work on a laptop, read…
5/ to use the wall of this ‘relaxing’ corner as a mini gallery to let the mind wander to inspiring images.
5/ to add a small desk for the children to come and do their homework when they need help. This addition proved to be a real nugget during the lockdown…
6/ and the icing on the cake… freeing up floor space for my client to do her morning yoga sessions.
